Monica Wildeman is a Canadian author who divides her time between Alberta, Canada, and Costa Rica with her husband, Fred, and their two Yorkies.
Inspired by family adventures, travel, and everyday life, Monica writes fun, rhyming children's books that encourage curiosity, laughter, and resilience.
Her debut book, Don't Be a Fred: Click! Click! Click! combines storytelling with modern technology. Monica creates her stories and characters herself and uses AI, graphic design tools, and personal photos to help bring her illustrations to life.
When she isn't writing, Monica enjoys traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and dreaming up new adventures for future books in the Don't Be a Fred series.

A mysterious noise is driving Fred crazy—and he just can’t let it go.
When Fred hears a strange clicking sound coming from his golf cart, he and his friend Kenny set off on a playful adventure through the rainforests, beaches and towns of Costa Rica. No matter what they do, the sound just won’t stop…or will it?
Don’t Be a Fred: Click! Click! Click! is a fun, rhyming picture book about curiosity, friendship, and learning when it’s better to laugh things off than worry too much. Filled with humor, heart, and vibrant illustrations, this story is perfect for read-aloud time and young adventurers who love a good surprise.

I ordered this book to read to my great-nephews. The adults laughed because we all know a "Fred" in our lives. The kids laughed because it was such a cute story. They said they would like to meet Fred! I feel the book is a wonderful blend of humor and storytelling. -Kathleen
